If you watch the mainstream news, or follow along alternative news sites, Russia is always some great, big boogeyman. A threat to the U.S. and the West as a whole. From election interference to nuclear saber rattling and war in Eastern Europe, Russia has come back to rear its ugly head, so they say.
But is it really a credible threat?
Let’s look at some objective facts.
In 2022, Russia’s GDP was $2.24 trillion.
In the same year, U.S. GDP was at $25.44 trillion, more than 11 times larger.
In fact, Texas’s GDP alone was $2.36 trillion.
Let that sink in for a moment. The state of Texas, with a population of 30 million people (5 times less than Russia), produced more goods and services than the entire country of Russia.
Moreover, Russia’s population had been decreasing for the majority of the past 2 decades.
Their birth rate is in the sewer (Russians don’t want to have children because… well, living in Russia sucks), and Russians have been leaving the country by the millions since the Iron Curtain fell. It’s not just random people leaving either, it’s the smartest and most successful people. The ones who can afford to immigrate, mostly flee to countries like the U.S. where they can actually build a life for themselves and live in relative peace. It’s a real issue, and the Russian government is at a loss as to how to address the “brain drain” sucking all the smart people out of the country.
The entire country of Russia has fewer than 1,000 commercial jets. For reference, that’s about as many as Delta has. Except Delta is but one of many major airlines in the U.S. The entirety of the U.S. has about 6,000 commercial jets, 6 times more than Russia.
I know what you’re thinking - “Russia has nukes!”
But do they work? A quick google search reveals the last nuclear test Russia conducted was in 1990, 34 years ago. After the fall of the soviet union, Russia’s military stockpiles were looted by corrupt generals and politicians and sold to the highest bidder (just watch Lord of War). Millions of rifles, uniforms, and all kinds of equipment were stolen.
When Russia started its first major war in 3 decades by attacking Ukraine, they discovered they didn’t have anywhere near as much military equipment as they thought they did.
What about election interference? Well, at this point we know that Russia didn’t materially interfere in the U.S. election in 2020. The CIA and FBI did, by silencing the Hunter Biden laptop story, and by planting fake evidence that Trump had colluded with Putin.
In the context of a country that produces less than the state of Texas and that for 2 years hasn’t been able to beat Ukraine (a country 5 times smaller and far less equipped than itself), these allegations of election interference become laughable.
Is Russia a real, credible threat to the mainland U.S.? I think not.
The real threat to Americans comes from their government, which for decades has waged a war to enslave and impoverish them. As Russia has moved away from Communism, the U.S. is getting closer and closer to it, at the level of government, institutions, NGOs, corporations, universities, and schools. The “long march” is almost over.
And while the U.S. kleptocracy robs Americans blind through inflation, taxation, and regulation, poisoning them with vaccines and pesticides, and confiscating more and more of their guns; Russia is a convenient far-away scapegoat to distract people’s attention.
It’s unfortunate that the alternative media has fallen for these lies too.
Perhaps if people knew the truth about just how weak Russia is, the U.S. government wouldn’t be able to get away with sending hundreds of billions of dollars to fight Russia in a proxy war.
The truth will set you free. Then the individual must what to do.
